Injury-plagued striker Adam Proudlock struck twice as Sheffield Wednesday gained cup revenge against Scunthorpe.
And veteran hotshot Mark Robins also helped himself to a double as Wednesday secured their first home win since November.
Third Division Scunthorpe had beaten the Owls on penalties at Hillsborough in an FA Cup second round replay last month. That helped set up a lucrative date with Premiership Portsmouth in the fourth round.
But without Steve MacLean and Peter Beagrie, both injured, they were easy pickings for Chris Turner's men, who set up a two-leg Northern Area final against Blackpool.
Former Wolves man Proudlock was making his first start since injuring his hamstring against Scunthorpe seven games ago. Proudlock scored his sixth and seventh goals for Wednesday, the first in the 32nd minute when he latched on to a Robins flick.
And then four minutes into the second half Scunthorpe goalkeeper Tom Evans dropped a clanger.
Evans was the hero of Scunthorpe's penalty shootout win at Hillsborough in November, but he made a hash of a speculative Proudlock effort from the corner of the box gifting Wednesday a three-goal lead.
Former Manchester United striker Robins scored either side of Proudlock. He gave Wednesday the lead on seven minutes when he slotted home Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu's cross and then he headed home Paul Smith's centre on 71 minutes.
But Wednesday almost fell behind after 30 seconds. Young Scunthorpe winger Matthew Sparrow hit the post after controlling a Cleveland Taylor cross. Wednesday keeper David Lucas was fortunate to see the ball rebound into his arms.
Midfielder Alan Quinn and defender Brian Barry-Murphy both struck the post for Wednesday.
