Tony Adams saw his Wycombe side lose their unbeaten away run against a workmanlike Scunthorpe side.
Although they showed plenty of pace through Nathan Tyson and Zema Abbey they were never able to test a solid home defence in which teenager Andy Butler and the experienced Ian Baraclough were key figures.
Wycombe were never able to contain the speedy Cleveland Taylor although Stewart Nethercott and Ian Stonebrige had solid games.
Wycombe found themselves under pressure almost from the start with Taylor's speed down the right flank causing problems although Tyson's raids were also threatening.
However, Scunthorpe began to dominate with Steve Torpey lifting the ball over the bar and Paul Hayes firing straight at Frank Talia.
The pressure took its toll in the 27th minute when Hayes got free down the left to fire home after being set up by a good ball from Andy Crosby.
Scunthorpe then took over completely with Baraclough and Nathan Stanton getting forward to test the Chairboys defence and Torpey was just off target with another effort.
Scunthorpe's pressure paid off again the 38th minute when Nethercott tangled with Hayes in the penalty box. Referee Gary Lewis immediately pointed to the spot and skipper Crosby hammered the ball home beyond Talia's left hand.
Taylor might have sewn the game up for The Iron before the break but he was inches wide and then Talia made a fine save from Hayes.
Wycombe's sole effort of note came from Ian Stonebridge in stoppage time when his shot flashed over the bar.
Scunthorpe played a containing game after the break, rarely testing the Wycombe rearguard while the visitors' Roger Johnson forced Paul Musselwhite into a fine save.
