Kyle Wootton earns a point for Scunthorpe in their draw with OldhamAn 88th-minute equaliser by substitute Kyle Wootton rescued Scunthorpe a deserved point in a 1-1 draw against fast-improving Oldham. It came just 10 minutes after the visitors had threatened to make it three wins on the trot with an opening goal from Daniel Lafferty. It was not until the second half that the game came to life after an evenly balanced opening period. It was Scunthorpe who had come closest to breaking the first-half deadlock when leading marksman Paddy Madden was denied his 19th goal of the season with a close-range header that crashed back off the bar.He went close again early in the second half with an angled shot on the run that was beaten away by keeper Joel Coleman. The Oldham keeper then rescued his side again with a great one-handed stop as full-back Conor Townsend ended a surging run into the box with a cracking left-footed shot. But Scunthorpe were then stunned as the visitors snatched a 78th-minute lead with an excellent finish by Lafferty, who swept a low shot into the bottom far corner as the ball came in low from the left from Carl Winchester.Scunthorpe poured forward again in search of an equaliser with substitute Greg Luer heading just over. But two minutes from time it was fellow substitute Wootton who popped up at the far post to steer a shot from a tight angle past Coleman after a left wing cross from Gary McSheffrey had caused panic in the visitors' defence
