It was a game of two halves, with the Cods shading the first and Scunthorpe taking the second without seriously extending Anthony Williams in the Grimsby goal.
Williams' most difficult save came when he tipped over an Andy Bulter header from one of Scunthorpe's eleven second-half corners.
Grimsby's best chances came in the final minutes of the first half. Firstly midfielder Jason Crowe lifted the ball over from close range and then a 25 yard snap shot from Andy Parkinson was neatly turned over by Paul Musselwhite in the Scunthorpe goal.
That apart it was a match of few chances with some hard tackles coming in from both sides, but the referee Tony Bait generally kept a firm grip on proceedings.
There was a good atmosphere generated by Blunder Park's biggest crowd of the season which included 2,400 travelling Iron fans.
It was Scunthorpe's first league visit to Grimsby for 15 years, and without a win in seven League games the Mariners dearly wanted to put one over the Iron.
But in the end they were satisfied with a point, while Grimsby were just happy not to lose to a side who beat them 2-0 earlier in the season.
