Iron manager Brian Laws was expected to field a side mainly consisting of trialists and fringe first team members in today friendly with the Zebras, and with Russ Wilcox and Torps the only players in the starting lineup with serious first team experience he did just that.

Torps partnered Andy Parton, who scored the only goal in last night's heavy defeat by first division Derby County, while both Ridley brothers were in the starting lineup.

Jamie McCombe and Terry Barwick completed the professionals in the side, the rest of the side was made up of trialists and youth players - including a trialist goallkeper Lewis.

Before the match a minutes silence was held in memory of Paul Cosgrove, a local man who was recently found dead in an Amsterdam canal. He had been mugged and then disappeared while in the Dutch capital on a Stag Party.

In blazing Lincolnshire sunshine the entire match was a low-key affair, with Andy Parton wasting the first opportunity of the match firing over the bar when in space.

The opening goal of the game came to the home side just over half an hour into the game when Lewis, who played only the first half in goal, conceded a penalty by taking a Town forward down in the area.

The spot kick was converted by Simon Gardner, but the trialist goalkeeper did redeem himself shortly afterwards with a good stop when he gathered the ball after a player had been put through.

Ten minutes before the break the equaliser came after a slip by Brigg's 'keeper Simon Jordan under pressure from Parton, with Steve Ridley capitalising to send the ball into an unguarded net.

Laws made a number of changes at half-time, including bringing on Tommy Evans (who had not been in the announced team squad) for Lewis, Andy Parton was also replaced with Sean Singh coming on.

Steve Torpey headed home the Iron's second goal early into the second half, but with neither side willing to take too many chances towards the end of the match the home side grabbed an equaliser to ensure everyone went home with a smile on their face.

Terry Barwick had one of his best games for the Iron, while Sean Singh impressed many down the right wing.

The Iron are next in action on Monday against Grimsby Town at Blundell Park, while Brigg Town will host Lincoln City.
