Preview: Leicester City v Scunthorpe United

Last updated : 01 October 2010 By Iron-Bru.net

Overview
For Iron supporters, the concern is about scoring goals. Jonathan Forte had a good start to the season, but the pressure of leading the line seems to be playing tricks with his mind. Chris Dagnall has four goals to his name in all competitions, but seems to be playing in more of a support role than out-and-out striker. Ian Baraclough was trying to bring in an experienced forward to help them out, but was not expecting to complete any deal ahead of the game. The biggest interest for any neutral supporters is in Paulo Sousa, the Leicester manager. He quit Swansea City to take charge at the Walkers Stadium in the summer, but the Foxes are bottom of the table and all the talk is he will be urged to leave if three points are not secured on Saturday.

Iron team news
Jim McNulty (ankle) and Garry Thompson (groin) are still out. Ian Baraclough has been trying to sign a forward on loan, but any signing is unlikely to be completed in time.

Foxes team news
Leicester are without forward Matty Fryatt due to suspension after he was sent off against Norwich on Tuesday night. Defender Miguel Vitor returns after a ban.

Foxes in profile
Established: 1884
Nickname: The Foxes
Historical achievements:  The success of Martin O'Neill's reign as manager hangs over the club - leading the club to victory in the League Cup in 1997 and 2000. That tripled the amount of major trophies the Foxes had won, having also lifted the trophy in 1964. That is, of course, taking their 1971 Charity Shield win as not a major trophy. Their highest league position was second in the old Division One, in 1928/29, and they have been beaten in the FA Cup final four times. They have spent much of their history swapping between the top two divisions - hence why they have claimed the title in the second tier of English football six times. They have dropped into the third tier just once, winning promotion back as League One champions in 2009.
Manager: Paulo Sousa

Stats and figures
Barring a late injury or selection surprise, the match will be Jonathan Forte's 100th career league start. Of more concern to him is the fact he has not scored in his last six games, a run of form that has clearly been playing on his mind. Leicester's weak defence this season has contributed to the highest-scoring matches in the Championship - 32 goals have gone in during their nine games. Scunthorpe will be hoping for goals, but not in the manner of the 5-1 loss last season.

Past meetings
Iron fans should look away now: out of the eight meetings between these two sides, Leicester have won five and the other three have been draws. Last season the Foxes were 5-1 winners at the Walkers Stadium.
