The 32-year-old has been frozen out at Meadow Lane this season and is hoping to kick-start his career with the Valiants.
"It has come very much as a surprise. I got a phone call yesterday from my agent, Ian Taylor, who used to play for Port Vale of course," he told the club's official website.
"He had already spoken to [the Vale manager] Dean Glover about bringing me in and it happened overnight really.
"I am experienced and have played a lot of games at this level and the level above and I have been itching to get a game this year, but for whatever reason the gaffer at Notts County has chosen not to go down that road.
"I've been chomping at the bit to get a chance. I'm fit because I have played in a couple of reserve games in the last couple of weeks so I am raring to go."
