The Shakers are hanging onto a play-off place after drawing their last four games and Knill, a former Scunthorpe defender, believes it is down to some players letting the pressure get to them.
"All of a sudden, things are getting a little more tense in the dressing room and we've just got to relax," he said.
"We are in a good position and it's in our hands. We haven't set a points target, we just look at the next game.
"It's really difficult because the end is in sight and you want promotion so much."
