Earlier in the season Knill tried to play down expectations, and he has adopted a similar balanced approadh.
"It's not all doom and gloom. We've had a chat this week, and we've decided it's down to silly mistakes," he told the Bury Times.
"We're determined to put that right because, once we cut out the mistakes, we aren't far off.
"Most of the teams that started the season well have had dips, and if we'd drawn a few of the games we've lost we'd be in the top three. I'm always confident with this team. We have some strong players."
