Keogh, who left Glanford Park to join Wolves in January, started on the right wing for Steve Staunton's side against Ecuador at the Giants Stadium in New York.

He was one of 11 players to make their senior bows during the match, including student Joe Lapira who became the first non-professional Republic international since 1964.

Christian Benitez had put Ecuador ahead after 13 minutes, but Kevind Doyle levelled just before the break.

The Giants Stadium holds a special place in the hearts of the Republic, as they secured a memorable 1-0 win over Italy in the 1994 World Cup finals there.

"There were some excellent individual performances, and overall it was a good team performance," said Staunton.

"I am delighted with our lads, because it goes to show it does not matter who comes into the squad, they get on with it - give it their all and that is all they can do.

"It was very, very pleasing - there were some excellent individual performances and overall it was a good team performance, especially as it was a difficult surface."
