Alexander, who joined Luton Town from United for £50K before moving onto Preston North End, qualifies for the Tartan Army as his father was born in Glasgow.

He is set to team up with new manager Berti Vogts ahead of their friendly with Nigeria on April 17th.

He follows in the footsteps of Matt Elliott, who has also represented the Scots.

Middlesbrough youngster Robbie Stockdale is set to join Alexander up north, despite already featuring for England's U21 side.
