Perez made 13 appearances for Scunthorpe in the 99/00 season after joining from Newcastle on loan.
He then joined Cambridge on a free transfer before moving onto Conference side Stevenage Borough in February 2003.
But he hit the headlines this weekend when he appeared to poke Northampton coach Dave Watson in the eyes after a disagreement over a penalty kick during a FA Cup second round clash.
The incident was caught by BBC TV cameras, who were filming extended highlights for Match of the Day, and is likely to see an FA investigation and possible police action.
Cobblers boss Colin Calderwood said: "I just managed to see what's happened.
"There's obviously been an altercation and there's going to be an FA investigation at the very, very least."
