The former Scunthorpe forward has netted six goals in as many games as the Chairboys battled against relegation.
Chris Powell, the Charlton boss, hinted at a recall on Thursday and has quickly acted to take the 28-year-old back to The Valley.
Gary Waddock, the Wycombe boss, thanked Hayes for his contribution to the club.
“We can’t thank Hayesy enough for what’s he done during his time with us,” he told Wycombe's official website.
“He’s been excellent but he’s a Charlton player and I hope he goes on to win a championship medal with them.”
