Hooper netted in Celtic's memorable 3-2 Champions League win at Spartak Moscow on Tuesday night, his first appearance in the group stages of Europe's elite competition.
"We're hoping to talk to his agent soon about a new deal but he's probably just put £25,000 a week on his wage," said Celtic boss Neil Lennon in the Daily Record, referring to Hooper's strike in Russia.
"I'm just delighted for him because he's a great kid who has been a huge player for me. Long may it continue.
"We want to give him a new contract and we're hoping to get that finalised soon."
Hooper moved to Parkhead from the Iron in the summer of 2010, for an undisclosed fee. It was widely reported as being a transfer worth more than £2million, but the Iron still list Billy Sharp's £2m move to Sheffield United as their record sale.
