The former Scunthorpe defender has signed a one-year extension to stay at the Pirelli Stadium,
"We feel that the contribution that Nathan Stanton has made is exactly the type of character we need," said Rowett.
"He’s whole hearted and will do everything he can to stop a goal. He’s signed for another year and we’re really pleased about that.
‘I’ve also been really pleased with him as captain. He’s taken that on board with enthusiasm and relish and we’ve seen a better Stanno for it.
"You want to maintain some continuity, obviously the defence has been an issue, but I see him as a player who can alleviate that problem."
Stanton joined Burton in July 2010, opting to sign for them rather than extend his stay at Rochdale.
He had moved to Dale following his release by the Iron in 2006, where he had been part of the squads that won promotion from the fourth tier of English football in 1999 and 2005.
He made a total of 276 first-team appearances for the Iron, after coming through the youth ranks at Glanford Park, and scored one goal.
