The £1.5million capture netted his first Championship goal for the club against Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday, after also netting against Bradford in the Carling Cup, as the Molineux side bounced back from an opening day loss to Watford.
He completed a move from Southend in the summer, after failing to keep the Shrimpers from relegation to League One.
"Forget all this astute signing nonsense. He's a good player and I expect him to make and score goals," said McCarthy.
"His partnership with Andy Keogh is still a bit of a work in progress and it will take time for them to gel."
The 23-year-old's dramatic rise through the footballing ranks will continue when he makes his first international start against Bulgaria in the Naftex Stadium.
Eastwood, who was playing in the Conference South with Grays just four seasons ago, is eligible for Wales because of a grandfather who was born in Llanelli.
"Freddy will start the match, he has done well at his new club Wolves with a couple of goals and we hope he can start scoring for us too," said Wales boss John Toshack.
"We are pleased to have him with us. You can see in training that he is something different to what we have in the squad, a genuine goalscorer.
"I have liked what I have seen of him. He's gone to a big club who aspire to challenge for the Championship and he has got a good chance now at club level and on the international scene."
