The 30-year-old utility man has not played a first-team game for almost 12 months after being the victim of a nightclub stabbing last year, but is set to put pen to paper on a short-term deal with the Terriers.
The former Manchester United youngster played under current Huddersfield boss Andy Ritchie when he was in charge at Barnsley last season.
"As far as we know the deal has been done. I signed him on loan when I was at Barnsley but then I got the bullet two days later," Ritchie said.
"He only played a handful of games for them because of his unfortunate episode last Christmas, but by all accounts did very well."
