Stockport expect takeover approach

Maguire, who left his role at Edgeley Park last week, is now believed to be forming a consortium aiming to take control of the cash-strapped club.

"Two months ago Mark came to me and said with the financial situation at the club he thought the club needed a management buy-out," said current chairman Martin Reid.

"Since then, Mark has contacted people he knows and is putting a bid together. So it's in the interest of the club and himself that he actually got on with this project and his position became untenable."
