The Saints have drawn one - a controversial 1-1 draw with Scunthorpe on Saturday - and lost one since Pearson took the helm, but he believes that the early signs are promising.
He told the Daily Echo: "What pleases me most is the atmosphere in the dressing room and the togetherness.
"Managers and coaches can make a framework for the players, but ultimately it's the players that make it. The game's always been about players and they have a responsibility to each other.
"There's no getting away from the fact this has been a disappointing season for Southampton and we need to salvage something from it.
"That means getting enough points to be safe first and foremost. We are in a scrap, but we are better equipped to deal with a scrap if everybody's pulling in the same direction."
