Irvine left his role as number two to David Moyes at Goodison Park last week to take the reins at Deepdale.
But after starting his tenure with a 2-0 home defeat to Charlton Athletic, the new Lilywhites boss is looking to make some familiar moves in the transfer market.
"I'll be keeping in touch with David Moyes as the season goes on," said Irvine.
"There's a chance of borrowing players from Everton because you can have players on loan, but we might not be able to afford the wages.
"I might have to go cap in hand to them, but I've got a nice list of players."
