The 33-year-old left-back has been training with the Stoke-based club for three weeks, and will add further experience to Martin Foyle's squad.
Chairman Bill Bratt told the Press Association: "I think he will sign in the next day or two because it looks like he's talked his wife and family round and persuaded them to move up north.
"He had an offer from Cheltenham, which is only about 30 miles from where he lives, but it looks like he¹s definitely going to sign for Port Vale."
