The former Blackpool man joined from Plymouth on Tuesday and the 29-year-old has been a long-term target of Wilson.
"He has scored plenty of goals at this level and that will serve us well," he said. "He'll come into a team which, at the moment, hasn't been converting the percentage of chances we've created that we want.
"Hopefully he can rectify that and keep pressure on the rest of our strikers at the club. We have four very good strikers at this club now and you need that sort of depth if you are to survive.
"We have a few signings that could be imminent. We've identified a few and are hopeful the signing of Scott will be the catalyst."
