The 36-year-old former Southampton, Coventry City and Celtic full-back joined the League One club on a non-contract basis earlier in the summer after leaving Bournemouth.
He made his Leeds debut in the 4-0 Carling Cup victory over Crystal Palace in midweek and was delighted to put pen to paper with Gary McAllister's side.
"I could have stayed down south but when Gary asked me if I wanted to join up for training in pre-season it was a massive incentive for me," he said.
"Six months ago I would not have expected this but I feel fit and I enjoyed pre-season. I'm looking forward to having another year now."
