Simpson has featured eight times for United this season, but is set to lose his place when captain Gary Neville returns from injury.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said: "I've let Danny Simpson go on loan to Ipswich, a good football team, until the end of the season.
"It's good for the lad - with Gary Neville coming back, the boy needs games."
