The 34-year-old Nigerian playmaker has moved back to England after a spell in Qatar, having previously worked under Brown at Bolton Wanderers.
He came on 10 minutes after the interval against the Potters and helped the home side snatch a point thanks to David Livermore's late header.
"We did not get the ball down sufficiently in the first half, but when Okocha came on, he settled things down and we could have gone on and won it," said Brown.
"I was concerned we looked a bit out of shape when Jay-Jay came on, but David Livermore brought that shape to us to pop up with the goal.
"But I thought Jay-Jay's contribution was there for everyone to see. He has great ability on the ball and will attract close attention from future sides.
"Is he up to speed in 90 minutes of Championship football? I don't know yet, maybe we'll get to see that on Tuesday at Wolves."
