He is expected to be out of action for at least four weeks after damaging his shoulder in Wednesday night's 3-1 friendly defeat at the hands of Wolves.
"As yet the severity of the dislocation is unknown, but initial reports suggest that the skipper will be out of action for at least four weeks," read a club statement.
"Broadhurst will now have further examination of the injury to determine whether or not an operation is required."
If Broadhurst does not need surgery he should be back in action well before United's first game of the season against the Bulls, a League One clash at Edgar Street on Saturday September 20.
