His side missed out in the play-off final against Sheffield Wednesday last term, after going down to ten men late on in the game.
But Scott believes his team has much to look forward to.
The ex-Sunderland full-back said: "I'm not lowering my standards for anybody. I have high standards and I aim to go one better than last year.
"Both the club and I have learnt so much from that weekend [Play-off final] and the atmosphere and everything that goes with the play-offs.
"I'm really comfortable in the job. I've always wanted to progress in my career and I'm just pleased I've got the opportunity."
