The 31-year-old will spend the next month on-loan at the Bulls, who he played for until his move to Whaddon Road in 2004.
Guinan, who scored once in three appearances for Scunthorpe in 1999, had been told he did not feature in the first-team plans of Robins boss John Ward.
"Steve has been very influential in the way we have played this season but he has not scored as many goals as we would have liked," said Ward.
"At the moment we have to get goals immediately and unfortunately that means leaving Steve out."
