The Trees have turned to the 27-year-old after having Nathan Tyson ruled out for four months with knee ligament damage.
Rovers received a bid last week, but are not rushing to a decision over his future.
The Pirates' director of football Lennie Lawrence said: "We are dealing with that now and as soon as it is resolved, either by it being accepted or rejected, we will let people know. Hopefully that will be within the next 48 hours or so.
"We will have to see what happens. At the moment it is just a bid and we will deal with that bid on its merits and do what is in the best interests of the club."
