The 28-year-old is on the transfer list and has not figured in boss Gary Megson's plans so far this season.
Stoke boss Johan Boskamp said: "We're going to have a good look at him, but he's got to be better than what we have.
"I have a responsibility to the young players at this club to make sure they get a chance as well."
