The Robins earned a creditable home draw against league leaders Scunthorpe on Tuesday, with only a Billy Sharp equaliser 11 minutes from time denying them a win.
Now Ward wants his side to go one better when the Gills visit, knowing a victory could see his side climb out of the relegation zone.
"Our form at home has been good recently and at this stage of the season against a team hovering just above the bottom places, we must start making our home matches count," he said.
"We are a match for anyone at Whaddon Road and if we start winning games there we will hopefully reel in the teams above us. Saturday would be as good a time as any to start."
