Paul Thirlwell, the Cumbrians' captain, limped out of Tuesday's Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat at Rochdale - a result which comes after four successive League One losses.
It is feared Thirlwell aggravated the calf problem which troubled him last season, while Michael Bridges also picked up a knee injury in the Spotland defeat.
Scott Dobie, Marc Bridge-Wilkinson, Chris Lumsdon and Peter Murphy are already in the Brunton Park treatment room.
Ward told the News & Star: "Thirlwell has a calf problem. He's unhappy with it. It's similar to what we've had before with him, so it's a concern.
"Bridges' knee is sore - he had an ice pack on it after the game. He's not sure what the problem is and we'll look at it in the next 24 hours.
"Scott [Dobie] has a swollen ankle and, although he trained on Monday, I wasn't looking to put him in at Rochdale."
