Brentford skipper misses start of campaign

The 34-year-old ex-Reading midfielder will be out for six weeks following an operation on a niggling injury, but boss Martin Allen believes his absence will make team spirit stronger in the Bees camp.

"It is a blow to us but it will make us stronger and our resolve even greater" said Allen.

Goalkeeper Stuart Nelson, defender Marcus Gayle and winger Paul Brooker are also doubts for the start of the season.
