David Wheater has signed for the Premier League side Bolton Wanderers, with Barnsley's Adam Hammill also sealing a move to the top flight. Wheater, 23, has signed a three-and-a-half year contract with the Trotters.

Although the fee is officially undisclosed, the Lanacashire side are believed to be paying £2.3million up front with £1.5m more based on appearances. "I have been at Boro since I was 10 years old, and all my family and friends are up here," he told the Evening Gazette.

"It's been one of the toughest decisions of my life. I always said I would stay at Boro, but football is my job and you have to do what's best for your career."

The in-demand Barnsley winger Adam Hammill has completed a move to the Premier League side Wolves. Hamill, 22, has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with the Molineux club.

"I'm pleased to be getting the chance to try and play Premier League football. My agent has got a few players here already and they all say how much they enjoy playing here under Mick and the staff here." said Hamill.

"It seems a really good working environment and I can't wait to get going and get the shirt on. I've spoken to Mick [McCarthy] on the phone and I'm looking forward to meeting him. "I've heard he's honest and will tell you things you don't want to hear at times, but he's straight down the middle and fair which is what everyone wants as a player."
