Blades sign Villa defender on loan

The 21-year-old impressed last season for Martin O'Neill's side, but has found first-team opportunities limited this term following the summer arrivals of Zat Knight and Curtis Davies.

"There has been a lot of interest in Gary, but I had to balance his need for football with the needs of the club," explained O'Neill.

"But I am always keen for players to get action wherever possible."
