The Black Country side were bought out by Scouse businessman Steve Morgan on the basis he invested £30million in the playing squad.
But that money is not an immediate injection, and Bowman says his club should not be looked at as a quick payday.
Wolves are leading the chase for Iron hotshot Sharp, who is one of the hottest properties around after hitting 32 goals as United won the League One title last season.
But Bowman warned: "I have had agents on the phone to me since the takeover announcement thinking we had become Chelsea overnight.
"They seem to think we had got £30m to spend right now, which is not quite the case.
"That money is an investment to be put into the football club, and while it does help in getting a few more players than we might otherwise we showed last season we are not far off being a good side anyway.
"The blueprint we have followed over the last 12 months has been a success, and with two or three quality additions to the squad we can take the next step."
