The Iron lined-up with summer signing James Severn in goal, and trialists Eugen Bopp and Brian Smikle in the starting XI.
Matt Godden and Connor Jennings formed the strike partnership, with Callum Howe, Luke Hornsey and other youth players filling out the squad.
The Iron started brightly, with Godden having an effort ruled out after almost quarter of an hour.
But chances were few and far between, and the match was goalless at the interval.
Godden opened the scoring early in the second-half. He controlled a cross from Jennings before slotting it home.
Jennings headed over from a corner shortly afterwards, as the Iron looked for a second goal to kill the game off.
That second strike did not come, however, and Rangers levelled in the final minutes.
