The group is made up of seven businessmen, headed by former associate director Graham Bean.
Chairman Steve Wharton has rejected the bid, and tonight finally broke his silence on the issue.
It is the first time he has acknowledged the bid, having told Iron-Bru.net on Monday that he knew nothing of any approach.
In a message posted on the club's official website he said: "Why didn't they make the offer to the previous board?
"I had no power until the directors elected me to the board and they resigned.
"I had said I wouldn't call an EGM and I also said I would never force anything through by using my voting power if it didn't have popular support.
"I was chairman for just over two years with Brian Laws, in which time we finished eighth and then fifth.
"At the same time we reduced the players wage bill by over £200,000 and had to cope with the demise of ITV digital, we also reduced our overall debt quite considerably.
"We have a very ambitious plan to improve all aspects of the club. Some of Mr Bean's proposals seem to have been taken from the ideas I outlined to Chris Holland when I handed over some six months ago.
"Our own plans will soon be made public and you will obviously decide for yourselves who deserves your support."
