The New Zealand international has been out of favour at Glanford Park since breaching club discipline ahead of a crucial clash with Bristol City last season; and has not started in the first team since then.

"I got a call from my agent saying Vale were interested in me and I jumped at the chance to come," said Mulligan.

"Every time I have been here it has always been a good game and even though the team are struggling at the bottom, hopefully I can come in, maybe with a couple of other players, and start to do well."
