McClenahan, 25, has been training with the Iron this week and played the full 90 minutes of Tuesday's Lincolnshire Senior Cup final win over local non-league side Grimsby Town.
Nigel Adkins, the Scunthorpe manager, said McClenahan "did very well" in a training game on Thursday and has extended his trial until next week.
