Bateson said: "Basically we pay for one trip, and even if Scunthorpe travel down and back on the day of the rearranged game we will pay for the first trip.
"I estimate that the postponement will end up costing us a minimum of £5,000.
"On top of Scunthorpe's expenses you can add the costs of staging a second match.
"Also the fact is that many Scunthorpe supporters who could make it on a Saturday won't be able to travel to a midweek game and, overall, the gate for a Tuesday night will be less than for a Saturday afternoon."
The match has been rearranged for Tuesday February 24.
