The side have taken just 10 points from the last 30 on offer, and know results must pick up if automatic promotion is to be achieved.

Torpey told Football First: "We have been very inconsistent over the last 10 games, and there's no real explanation for it.

"The atmosphere in the dressing room is still very good and we all hoping this is just a small blip and a couple of wins will get us back on track again."

The form of the Silkmen, who have closed the gap on the leaders to just three points going into the weekend, has lead to some fans peering nervously over their shoulders.

But with Andy Keogh, Wayne Corden and Stev Angus all arriving at the club, Torpey believes the side have the fresh faces to achieve only the second promotion in North Lincolnshire in the last 20 years.

The squad will stay over in the West Country for the key away games against Yeovil and Swansea, and everyone at the club is 100 per cent focused on promotion.

Torpey added: "It will allow us to prepare and focus properly so we're fresh for the games rather than spending hours on coaches.

"By next weekend we're all hoping we could be top of the table again but we're also very much prepared that the promotion battle is probably going to go down to the wire.

"There are 13 games left this season and I think we need to win at least another eight to be sure of an automatic spot."
