Laws has an added problem, with Jamie McCombe going over on his ankle during training on Tuesday he is now also sweating to be fit.
This leaves manager Brian Laws with a defensive dilemma, as midfielder Wayne Graves filled in at right-back at Bury on Easter Monday but is suspended for the final two scheduled games of the season.
Laws is toying with switching Mark Jackson, or - if fit - Jamie McCombe to the right, but James Cotterill could come back into contention.
Laws said: "We have still got a couple of options that we could try out."
Captain Peter Beagrie was left on the bench at Gigg Lane, but is expected to return at the expense of Paul Dalglish.
Laws said: "He is a big time player, a big game player. He'll certainly be involved."
With two games left to play United are sixth in the league table and know that three points against Oxford are vital to make sure that their destiny is in their own hands on the final day of the season.
North Lincolnshire Council has handed out a thousand free tickets to local schoolchildren and Laws is hoping that the club draw a large and patient crowd.
He added: "I will be very, very disappointed if we don't have a big gate on Saturday. We are relying on our supporters this time.
"If the supporters lose their patience it spreads onto the team, we all need to be pushing in the right direction."
