Terrorism alert for fans

United travel to face Brentford on Saturday, their only scheduled trip to the capital this season.

On July 7 the city ground to a halt as a series of bombs went of simultaneously on the underground tube network and on a bus.

A failed attempt to repeat the attack on July 21, exactly two weeks later, prompted the FL, Premier League and FA to seek talks with the Government and issue advice for supporters.

Although the July 7 attacks caused widespread disruption, the death toll was a fraction of what it could be if a bomb went off inside a packed football stadium.

The advice includes avoiding taking bags to grounds where possible, and to allow more time for security checks at turnstiles - as more fans are likely to be searched.

The statement read: "The safety of supporters is our top priority and in the light of current circumstances additional safety measures such as increased bag searches are being implemented.

"We also have the following advice for supporters to enable them enjoy match day to the full.

"Increased security may mean it takes longer than normal to enter the ground. Please try to arrive a few minutes earlier than normal.

"Where possible, please avoid taking bags into the stadium as increased searches will be in place. If you are asked to be searched, please co-operate and help the stewards to process your entry to the ground as quickly as possible.

"Keep all items and belongings with you at all times, even when leaving your seat at half-time.

"Please remain vigilant at all times. Any suspicious activity should be reported immediately to a police officer or steward."
