Hobson was voted off the board during an EGM on Monday evening and Swann was quick to insist that Hobson had not fulfilled his responsibilities as a director.
“I think, in the end, if you are a director of a club you have certain responsibilities to the other directors, the club and the fans,” Swann told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.
“The process Dennis decided to use was every time he had a problem he’d go to the radio.
“And then also, to actually talk about the board in a possibly defamatory way, it made it very difficult to work with him.
“We’d not seen him for three months. He’s not attended a board meeting.
“We have usually got notice to the effect he wasn’t attending anywhere from 30 minutes to 10 minutes before the board meeting.
“He’s not been here. He’s not contributed to anything at Scunthorpe United.
“In the end we had to go down the road that we didn’t want to go down.
“I don’t know if there was any particular point where it became unworkable.
“We wanted him still on the board (after Swann became chairman), we wanted him to be part of the club.
“But his comments on the radio were possibly defamatory and we felt we couldn’t carry on working with him.
“It happens in business.”
Hobson turned up to the meeting on Monday but was not prepared to attend without his solicitor.
His solicitor was refused entry by the club because a request for him to act as proxy was not received more than 48 hours prior to the meeting.
