Sparrow's suspension stands

Three match ban
Sparrow was sent off in the first half of last Tuesday's win over Second Division Oldham Athletic after clashing with Latics midfielder John Sheridan.

Although match referee Colin Webster watched a tape of the incident and admitted that Sparrow had not thrown a punch - as originally claimed - he insisted that the red card should still stand because he acted in a violent manner.

Sheridan had been shown the red card after landing two punches on Sparrow, and both players will now sit out three games.

United continued their appeal against the decision, but the FA's disciplinary panel has turned it down.
Sparrow will miss the home game against Torquay, and the trips to Mansfield and Boston.
