Shrewsbury Police fear hooligan trouble

Over 100 police officers are on duty at the game after intelligence reports suggested that hooligans could target Shrewsbury's last game in the league following their relegation to the Conference.

Detective Inspector Martin Whiteledd of Shrewsbury Police said that the historic importance of the match along with a lareg away following will cause policing problems.

He said: "Because it is the last league game that Shrewsbury may see for some time large numbers may turn up to see that little bit of history being made.

"Scunthorpe are at the other end of the table and our intelligence is that they will have quite a large following.

"That always brings an element of problems. One or two individuals will come here intent on causing problems rather than to watch the football."

This season six fans have been banned from Glanford Park as the club and Humberside Police took a `zero-tolerance` approach to hooliganism.

Scunthorpe United Chief Executive Don Rowing said that the club wants to `eradicate` this element from the club's support.

He said: "Scunthorpe United is a family club and we intend to make sure it stays that way."
