The youngster netted in Saturday's 2-0 win at Tranmere which all but sealed the title for the Iron, and saw him add his name to the club's history books.
And with two games left to play, he is hoping that he can go one better than Thomas - who incredibly scored his 31 goals in just half the 1961/62 season before being sold to Newcastle against his will.
"He was a legend at the club and to equal his record is special for me," Sharp told BBC Radio Humberside.
"With two games to go if I can get one goal I'll have the record to myself, but I'm just going to enjoy myself now."
United lead second-placed Bristol City by six points, meaning only a freak run of results can deny them their first title win since 1958.
And although the Iron players won't be taking things for granted, Sharp is determined to enjoy the side's remarkable success.
"We'll try to win both games obviously, but It'll be a real party atmosphere now," he added.
"We believe that we are champions, we think it's over -we're absolutely delighted.
"We're enjoying ourselves, and why not. The crowd sang all game at Tranmere and we had a little party with them.
"We look forward to next week, because we owe Blackpool one for earlier in the season when they beat us at Glanford Park."
