And with United - who Sharp supported as a boy, and from whom United signed him from in 2005 - struggling for survival in the Premiership, there is a chance the two sides could meet in the league next term.
"The idea of playing against Sheffield United first dawned on me a couple of weeks ago," admitted Sharp to PA Sport.
"I have been thinking about it, but obviously I don't want to see them relegated. I'm just going to concentrate on helping Scunthorpe win the title now that we've got promotion.
"It's a good feeling knowing I'll be playing in the Championship next season whatever happens."
