Taylor claimed that Laws made an approach for the 24-year-old defender, but that it was rejected as the Mudrats need a full strength squad in their push for a second successive promotion.
He said: "We don't want to let anyone go. Brian Laws was on the phone about Richard Hinds but we don't want to lose any players."
But, Laws has laughed off Taylor's claim.
He said: "If you ring up any football club you'll find my name linked, because I've rang a lot of clubs.
"It gets frustrating because I haven't done anything other than enquire."
Laws admits he has drawn up a shortlist of five or six players, but has not made a firm offer for anyone yet.
